I realize some of you might have read this before but I believe it's worth one more read and if you havent read it... now is the time. .... We all get old and some of you are a lot older than I am and always will be... : )
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions. "How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key. You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead. "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21.
YESSSS!!! But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed? You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone. But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would! So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60. You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90's, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!" May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

Fireground Search: Critical Do's and Don'ts For Effective Search Operations

Event Registration (EVENT: 29297):
Fireground Search: Critical Do's and Don'ts For Effective Search Operations
Event Date: November 09, 2006 02:00 PM EST
Presenter: John Salka
This program is designed to illustrate the critical elements of fireground search operations that firefighters need to master. Simply donning an SCBA and entering a structure is not a search! Specific skills and tactics need to be learned and practiced to result in effective search operations. Once inside a burning building, what does the first search team look for? Do we need to find the fire first or should we be looking for occupants? How many firefighters should be assigned to a search team? What tools are most helpful and effective? All of these issues need to be addressed along with other items such as communication, command and survival. Join FDNY battalion chief John Salka as he outlines the search procedures and skills that you need to know to conduct safe, rapid and effective search operations at your next structural fire.

Men: Rise Up and Assert Yourselves!!!!
OK, enough is enough! This picture speaks volumes I think. (click on photo if you cannot read the orange sign)Enough of opening car doors for the "weaker" sex! Start leaving the toilet seat up and be proud of it! Open the door at McDonalds and walk through it first; take back your lives!
Gone are the days of equal pay. That sort of thing.
Are you ready??? Stand together today and take back control!!!
Oh oh... look at the time!!! Ok, you'll have to start without me. The timer just went off on the stove. Time to fix the rest of dinner. I'll continue this meaningful movement later on after I've done the dishes... but until then... Rise up!

Fire Station Fire Causes $15,000 Damage

Hey, it could happen.... couldn't it???
Fire Station Fire Causes $15,000 Damage:
Fire Station Fire Causes $15,000 Damage
October 17, 2006
A faulty toaster started a small kitchen blaze last Friday at Peterborough fire station 2 on Carnegie Avenue. Firefighters discovered the fire after returning from two alarm calls. It was quickly extinguished but damage is estimated at around $15,000.
The fire occurred at the end of Fire Safety Week, ironically focused on preventing cooking fires.
Peterborough Deputy Fire Chief Trent Gervais terms the incident a reminder that fire can happen 'to anyone, any time.'"

Captain Durocher: Hey, you guys…its Fire Prevention week… any ideas?
Fuerth: I’m hungry!
Captain Durocher: I don’t think that’s going to help the community for Fire Prevention
(Sounds of pans rattling in the background)
Fuerth: Anyone seen the frying pan?????
Captain Durocher: Hey, what about Fire Prevention Week??
Fuerth: Not a problem, Cap… I’ll think of something after I’ve had something to eat.
Haidy: Gee, I miss my gun
Captain Durocher: Ok, I give up! What are we having.. I’m kinda hungry myself now that you mention it.
Fuerth: Mmmm… hey, how about Caesar’s salad?
Captain Durocher: Sounds great. I’ll get the bacon.
Haidy: I love food.
Fuerth: Aha… the frying pan.. I’ve found it!!!
(sounds of bacon frying)
Fuerth: Hey, stop staring at the bacon. It’ll be done when it’s done.
Haidy: Oh oh…I think we have a run. Where’s the big red truck?????
Captain Durocher: Ok, fellas, let’s go… make sure you turn off the stove, Keith!!!
Fuerth: Not to worry, Cap. Remember, it's Fire Prevention Week!!!
(sounds of toast popping up in faulty toaster and bacon continuing to cook as Haidy’s big red truck leaves the station)

Event Registration (EVENT: 29295)

Event Registration (EVENT: 29295):
University of Extrication: School Bus Emergencies
Event Date: October 19,2006 02:00 PM EDT
Presenter: Ron Moore
Every school day, more than 2 million students will board a school bus before the day is over and while they are the safest means of mass transportation for the children, they present several special challenges to firefighters during an accident. Common incidents with school buses are major factors simply because of the possible occupants: while the smaller buses carry eight students, a large bus can carry 84 or more children. Besides the sheer potential for victims, firefighters will encounter different construction features that will even challenge the well trained teams. This webcast will address the NFPA 1670 standards for operations and rescue technician training and feature an overview of school bus construction and common challenges you will encounter."

A Firefighters glove

A Firefighter's gloves hold many things.
From elderly arms to a kid’s broken swing.
From the hands they shake and the backs they pat
to the tiny claw marks of another treed cat.
At 2 am they are filled with the chrome
from the DUI who was on her way home
and the equipment they use to roll back the dash
from a family of 6 she involved in the crash
The brush rakes in the spring wear the palms out.
When the wind does a "90" to fill them with doubt
the thumb of the glove wipes the sweat of the brow
of the face of a firefighter who mutters "What now?"
They hold inch and three quarters flowing one seventy five.
So the ones going in come back out alive.
When the regulator goes; then there isn't too much,
but the bypass valve they eagerly clutch.
The rescue equipment, the ropes, the C-collars;
the lives they save never measure in dollars
are the obvious things firefighters gloves hold
or, so that is what I’ve always been told.
But there are other things firefighter’s gloves touch.
Those are the things we all need so much.
They hold back rage on that 3 am call.
They hold in the fear when you’re lost in a hall.
They hold back the pity, agony, sorrow.
They hold in the desire to "Do it tomorrow"
A glove is just a glove till it's on firefighters
who work all day long just to pull an all-nighter.
And into the fray they charge without fear
at the sound of a "Help" they think they hear.
When the firefighter’s hands go into the glove
it's a firefighter who always fills it with love.
Sometimes the sorrow is too much to bear
and it seeps the glove and burns it deep "in there"
Off come the gloves when the call is done
and into the pocket until the next run.
The hands become lonely and cold for a bit
and shake a little thinking of it.
And they sit there so red eyed with their gloves in their coats
the tears come so fast that the furniture floats.
They're not so brave now; their hands they can't hide.
I guess this means that they are human inside.
And though some are paid and others are not
the gloves feel the same when it's cold or it's hot.
To someone you're helping to just get along
when you fill them with love, you always feel strong.
And so when I go on my final big ride
I hope to have my gloves by my side
to show to St. Peter at that heavenly gate.
Cause as everyone knows, firefighters don't wait.
Thank God.

Willoughby Visits The Cradle Of Civilization

Ahhhhhh... Picture it if you will... October, 2002. A long bus ride to the cradle of civilization, New York City. Poor Willoughby suffered culture shock as he witnessed for the first time in decades the large buildings that he hadn't seen since his arrival in Canada as a fleeing draft dodger.
Once inside the sancuary of the hotel he found time to sleep and dream of sugar plums and other assorted sweet items dancing around inside his head. Upon awakening our young Willoughby saw that indeed his dreams had come true. "How can this be?", he asked himself. "Ahhhhh.... maybe too much of the Nectar of the Gods".
Please feel free to ask Willoughby for his secret to "quick hangover remedies".

Mr. & Mrs Gorsky
Thanks to Paula Hillis for this one : )
ON JULY 20, 1969, AS COMMANDER OF THE APOLLO 11 LUNAR MODULE, NEIL ARMSTRONG WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO SET FOOT ON THE MOON. HIS FIRST WORDS AFTER STEPPING ON THE MOON, "THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND," WERE TELEVISED TO EARTH AND HEARD BY MILLIONS.
BUT JUST BEFORE HE REENTERED THE LANDER, HE MADE THE ENIGMATIC REMARK "GOOD LUCK, MR.GORSKY." MANY PEOPLE AT NASA THOUGH IT WAS A CASUAL REMARK CONCERNING SOME RIVAL SOVIET COSMONAUT.HOWEVER, UPON CHECKING, THERE WAS NO GORSKY IN EITHER THE RUSSIAN OR AMERICAN SPACE PROGRAMS.
OVER THE YEARS MANY PEOPLE QUESTIONED ARMSTRONG AS TO WHAT THE "GOOD LUCK, MR.GORSKY.. STATEMENT MEANT, BUT ARMSTRONG ALWAYS JUST SMILED. ON JULY 5, 1995, IN TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA, WHILE ANSWERING QUESTIONS FOLLOWING A SPEECH, A REPORTER BROUGHT UP THE 26-YEAR-OLD QUESTION TO
ARMSTRONG. THIS TIME HE FINALLY RESPONDED.MR.GORSKY HAD DIED, SO NEIL ARMSTRONG FELT HE COULD ANSWER THE QUESTION.
IN 1938 WHEN HE WAS A KID IN A SMALL MIDWEST TOWN, HE WAS PLAYING BASEBALL WITH A FRIEND IN THE BACKYARD.HIS FRIEND HIT THE BALL, WHICH LANDED IN HIS NEIGHBOR'S YARD BY THE BEDROOM WINDOWS. HIS NEIGHBORS WERE MR. AND MRS. GORSKY. AS HE LEANED DOWN TO PICK UP THE BALL, YOUNG ARMSTRONG HEARD MRS.GORSKY SHOUTING AT MR.GORSKY.
"SEX! YOU WANT SEX?! YOU'LL GET SEX WHEN THE KID NEXT DOOR WALKS ON THE MOON!"

Religion 101
I’ve read some forwarded emails supposedly written by “staff members” of newspapers who have called for their own version of a “holy war” against immigrants from other countries. Wow! What an authority figure they’ve made of themselves. I wonder how these folks became “Canadians” and what their family backgrounds are? Even worse what if their last name ends in a vowel???? Another thing; I visited some of the “editorial” sites that these emails originated from and the author can’t be found on their site. I find that interesting… Somebody wrote an editorial for the Edmonton Sun and they aren’t employed there. I suppose that’s where the word “Staff Infection” really came from.
Then I notice that the next email I receive from the very same people who want to send these immigrants back to the homeland contain a few quaint quotes regarding God and how special He is in their lives and warn me that if I don’t forward THEIR email that I will receive 20 years of plagues and pestilence. Hey, I can get a much better deal by breaking a mirror and receive only 7 years of bad luck. Don’t threaten others because they refuse to forward email. Over the years I’ve noticed that men die for religion, fight for religion, and dominate other countries for religion. Isn’t it too bad these folks won’t live for their religion?
I know what you’re saying. What about the photos from England with all the crazy Muslims with the posters calling for beheading of local politicians and the sort? There are all sorts of groups that are hate mongerers. That still doesn’t give us the right to put all groups different than us in the same boat. I guess there was that same sort of thinking with the KKK during the past. I find that Radical Muslims are to Islam as the KKK is to Christianity.
Everybody assumes because they found something on the Internet then it’s the absolute truth.
Wonderful ... If this is the case then I can guarantee that we will have the opportunity to meet aliens not of our galaxy at 2100 hours on the evening of December 14 of 2024. Hey, I read it on the web.. it has to be true!!!
Enough of receiving hate emails and forwarding them to others shall we. If we insist on forwarding hate emails let’s make certain we have met “the enemy” in order to make a fair assumption of his or her guilt. I don’t really care if it’s a Muslim, Jew, Protestant or Catholic. This country is made up of many different folks just like you and I. I wonder what would happen if the tables were turned and some of the Irish (or any other ethnic group) were being persecuted for the works of a radical Irish group. I think the Irish who have lived in this country for three generations definitely would NOT want to be forced to find homes back in the Old Country.

Long-Time New York Firefighter Dies Responding to Call - Firehouse.com In The Line Of Duty

Long-Time New York Firefighter Dies Responding to Call - Firehouse.com In The Line Of Duty:
"As paramedics gave Wilbur Ritter oxygen and loaded him into an ambulance, the 78-year-old volunteer had only one request from his fellow Sayville firefighters: 'Make sure you get the signs up for the blood drive.'
The words, which reflected a dedication to everything and anything related to the fire department, resonated in the minds and hearts of firefighters who gathered at their station house yesterday to remember the 59-year member of the department who died of an apparent heart attack Monday morning after answering his final call for duty."

Ask Arp!
Editor: Could please explain Einstein’s Theory of Relativity one more time?
Arp: Sure can; If your grandparents did not have children, and your parents did not have children, chances are you will not have children.
Editor: How do you protect yourself from computer ID fraud?
Arp: Just let it happen! My uncle had his complete ID stolen so he went for a replacement and got a better one than he had.
Editor: Where do you get all your knowledge?
Arp: I go to Google and type in Google
Editor: Any words of wisdom for the young folks out there, Arp?
Arp: If people do not know when they are going to die, why do we say they died prematurely?
Editor: What is your most recent accomplishment?
Arp: I was elected President of the Fart Retrieval Club.
Editor: Any last words?
Arp: If you clone yourself who would your parents be? Even weirder; when you see photos of your parents are you looking at photos of yourself? Weird, huh?

Chief Tapak Tries Out His Wireless Mouse!
Apparently Chief Tapak of ? Fire Department has discovered a cheap means of computer upgrading. He recently acquired a "wireless" mouse from Chief Gary Percy of (I cant remember) Fire Department. Chief Tapak is pleased with the price that he paid for the new hardware. "Hey, I only paid $4,000 for this new technology. The Canadian Forces has paid at least $8,000 for a lousy hammer", claims Tapak. "Council should really be proud of me that I saved them this much money!"

Is This True??????

How many times have you received emails about the Quran 911 and a reference to the "Eagle" cleansing the Holy Land? Or about that bag of salad below containing a live frog? Is this stuff true? Well, here's a great site to find out the truth as far as it can be investigated.
www.snopes.com
As far as the Quran foretelling about the Eagle having landed in the Middle East? Not true! As far as they know the frog in the salad is unconfirmed at this point. In the event that you do find a frog in a bag of salad.... DONT panic... seize the opportunity... frog legs are expensive these days.

Former Juvenile Delinquents, Serbu & KK, Discuss Their Future
Tom: Hey, have you had any thoughts about what we're going to do when we grow up?
KK: A little; why?
Tom: Well, after graduating from Beaver Creek I figured I might try Pro hockey.. that may keep me out of jail.
KK: Good idea; I'm a pretty good hockey player too... if that dont work out I can always work for Chryslers for 38 years.
Tom: Hey, if it doesnt work out we can always get a job on the local Fire Department, right?
KK: Of course, and they're not too particular who they hire right now. I'll have to make an appointment for my interview when Im not meeting my parole officer.
Tom: Wow, I forgot about mine too... but I can give him a couple of the old man's tires to quiet him up for awhile. I wonder how long I can work for the department without actually working?
KK: Well, let's see if you can go for 38 years and at the end not even show up for work!
Tom: Aha... that's the goal then... money for nothing.. haha
Update: When you call the local FD and ask for Serbu you are directed to a recording which goes something like this:
'Hello, thank you for calling the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services, you're call is important to us but Mr. Serbu cannot be reached at this time. When we locate him we will have him return your call. Remember, your call is important to us. Have a nice day. In the event you find Mr. Serbu please have him return to his office. Thank you."

Dave Stroud Does Some Repairs
I snapped this photo of Dave Stroud last week as he pulled over by the side of the road. Apparently Dave has a great deal of faith in the strength of 4 x 4's : ) At least he chocked the rear wheel.

Wisconsin Firefighter Dies in Blaze - Firehouse.com In The Line Of Duty

Wisconsin Firefighter Dies in Blaze - Firehouse.com In The Line Of Duty:
'We're supposed to be the people that save and not lose,' a choked up Fire Chief Jeff Stauber said Monday morning at a news conference about the death of a 17-year veteran firefighter. 'It's devastating.'
Engineer Arnie Wolff, 55, died Sunday in a house fire on Green Bay's east side, five days before he was to earn a promotion to lieutenant.
Chief Stauber says firefighters were called to the home at 438 Edgewood Drive minutes before 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Two firefighters entered through the home's back door. The floor collapsed and they fell into the basement, which was filled with burning debris.
Stauber believes the fire was contained in the basement and was 'fully involved' -- and firefighters were unaware of it until the collapse.
The other firefighter, Jo Brinkley-Chaudoir, was able to escape through a basement window, Stauber said. Fire crews could not enter the home to search for Wolff immediately because the burning home was too dangerous."

Massive recycling plant fire darkens Windsor skies

Massive recycling plant fire darkens Windsor skies:
AMHERSTBURG, Ont. -- A fire at an Amherstburg property Tuesday afternoon sent thick, black plumes of smoke into the sky that could be seen over 50 kilometres away.
Nearby residents were being warned to stay indoors as the fire in the 7700 block of Howard Avenue raged on land next to the offices of Libby Terminals and Motor Lines, a trucking and storage company.
The fire, which appeared to be in large plastic crates, quickly covered almost one hectare — the area of two football fields.
Volunteer firefighters from two Amherstburg stations rushed to the blaze and quickly called for backup from LaSalle and the Windsor Fire and Rescue Service’s hazardous materials crew.
Firefighters were warned the burning material was believed to be high-density polyethylene and polypropylene and that the smoke could be toxic.
According to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety burning high-density polyethylene can release potentially harmful chemicals, including carbon monoxide, acrolein and formaldehyde.
The Ontario Ministry of Environment sent staff from its Windsor office to the site to assess the situation and had air monitoring equipment on standby, said spokesman Mark Rabbior.
