Alabama Fire Captain Collapses On Duty - Firehouse.com In The Line Of Duty:
"Birmingham, Ala. Captain Billy A. Gafford collapsed during the department's annual fitness check April 25.
The 23-year veteran was walking around the track of the University of Alabama-Birmingham at approximately 2:30 p.m. before collapsing and was treated by fire-paramedics on the scene. They attempted to revive Gafford, but he was pronounced dead a short time later at UAB Hospital, according to Capt. C.W. Mardis.
Gafford was a firefighter and paramedic and led city fire station 16. He is survived by his wife and two sons."
